So, you ever been riding dirty, you drive right pass a cop, you poop your pants and wonder what if I get pulled over? Well, if you do, here are some quick tips. Know the law and empower yourself.

Officers can always ask you to identify yourself and you have to tell them who you are. They can ask you for ID and you need to produce ID, but other than that, you don't have to tell them shit. And you shouldn't. Now, for some hypos...

Hypo 1: you got some weed in the car...
Police can stop you when they have reasonable suspicion. This means if you violate any laws, like if you were on your cell phone, the police can stop you. If they do, they have the right to search the whole compartment of the car- this means the front seats, back seats, glove compartment, and center console. This means everything but the trunk. If they want to get into the trunk they need probable cause. So... keep your shit in the trunk! Safest place. And don't do nothing to give them an excuse to pull you over. If you're riding dirty, you're driving Miss Daisy. Get it? Put it in the trunk and drive like a saint. (And if you don't believe it, watch COPS. Everybody that gets busted got pulled over for a REASON, and that's why they're busted!!) Take your hat off, take your sunglasses off, get off the phone, put on your seatbelt. Think: MARINA.

Hypo 2: you have weed in the car, you didn't read this so you've stored it in the center console.
If the cops pull you over for a traffic violation they can search the whole compartment, they do not need a warrant! So, what do you do? if you are white, you are good. The officers probably will give you a ticket and let you go. But if you are not, then.. do not admit that you have anything, even if the cops say that if you tell them they will go easy on you. Either way, if the officers ask you to submit to a search say NO. They have the right to search anyways, but if you say NO then you will have something to fight about in court. You're probably not going to win, but at least you'll have something to fight. If they search and find the drugs, don't explain it it--don't say they belong to your room mate, or that you only smoke sometimes, just say you want to speak to an attorney! Nothing you say is going to help!! You're going to have to fight it out in court, so give them as little to work with as possible. And good luck!

Hypo 3: You're walking down the street, dirrrrty, and the cops approach you. You haven't done shit.
Officers can frisk of you for weapons. And if they during the frisk they feel something that feels like drugs they can pull that out. So always keep your weed in a cigarette pack or something that does not feel to the touch like drugs or a weapon.

Hypo 4: you had a little bit too much to drink at the club and now you have to drive home.
If you get pulled over and a DUI investigation begins.. (1) DO NOT tell the officer anything. Answer nothing affirmatively--don't lie, just refuse to answer. "I don't want to answer any questions without my attorney present." (2) You have to submit to a chemical test (blood or breath) by law or your license will be suspended for a year. This means you have to submit to a breath or blood test. But there are two types of breath tests given. One at the scene and one at the station. You do not have to submit to a breath test on the scene. They want to give you a breathalizer on the scene you do not have to submit, in fact, you should refuse this test. ALWAYS! There are no consequences for refusing it. Then you should tell the officers that you will submit to a blood test, never a breath test. Caveat: if you are under the influence of drugs, then submit to a breath test at the station (never ever submit to the breath test at the scene!)

Please remember, the police are NOT your friends. They may tell you that they will go easier if you cooperate. Do not believe this! Do not say anything!! People end up incriminating themselves and they don't even know it!! Always opt for your right to remain silent and always say you want an attorney. They have to stop all questioning when you say that!!

Compression wants you to get by, but recognize: this isn't legal advice, just some tips we came up with based on experience and a little bit of research! Don't ride dirty, but if you do, ride dirty and SMART. Good luck!

Yo, with the club still on hiatus, check out COMPRESSION CREW this week on Friday and Saturday at UNDERGROUND SF.

On Friday, 2 Cents (Aye~n and Mal) and the Colonel will be closing things out at BASSISM, Tommy Lexxus' monthly dedicated to dubsteb, drum and bass, and all things wobbly. It's a family affair, so stop by, get drunk for cheap, take advantage of the smoking chamber out back, and then GO NUTZ. It's been three weeks since the crew has played, so look for a shit ton of new tracks from Aye~n and Mal, and a pocketful of new rhymes from the Colonel. . .

Then, on Saturday, something new. The first party from Compression favorites, THE BEETS!, known appropriately as HARDCORE PORN.

This should be awesome. The first half of the night features pimps ELI GLAD (from Emily Betty's hot new night, YOUNGBLOODZ) and NEW YNGSTRZ (of Radboys fame), dropping that dirty dirty electro biznass. Then, once everyone is lubed up, the COMPRESSION CREW and THE BEETS! are joining forces for a 6x2 drum and bass fuckfest. You KNOW the BEEES! always pack the house with their YAHTZEE CREW, so look for a rowdy club filled with of stylish hotties and dubious freaks.

Well, shit, gang: it looks like this Thursday may be the last ever weekly Compression. Eight years in the bay, but thanks to cantankerous club management and, frankly, a lack of heads willing to roll downtown to club TEMPLE, this is it. Maybe we'll do some one-offs, who knows. But if this were a TV sitcom, right now is when we would roll the montage of past clips, starting from the day the crew first met, through all the amazing music and drunken lunacy, up until our last night ever this week. This week we welcome two of the City's finest, 4Real and the Beets!!

When you were still a wee baby, sucking on yer mama's massive teat, 4Real was already mixing records. From Throb records in 1996 to Breakbeat Science in 1999, from motherfucking Eklektik to Groundscore, 4Real has been part of the San Francisco DnB scene, always rocking the casbah with his broad mix of moody stompers and straight-up rollers. We last saw him killing it on the Groundscore stage at the Haight Street fair, but as he told us then, that was just a warm-up to the MURDER he plans to release at Compression on Thursday. Sack up, City! They call him 4Real cause he's the TRUTH.

MEANWHILE, at the other end of the spectrum, it's the city's newest badboys, THE MOTHERFUCKING BEETS!!!

One word: YAHTZEE!! Old-school Compression heads and new-school SFDNB BADASSES, the Beets!! rock out with a Compression flair, mixing quick and dropping bombs. Last time they played, they rolled through with the massive Yahtzee Crew, looking cool and getting the dancefloor rowdy as FUCK. They got the records, they got the techniques, they got the chicks, and they got the fat ass joints!! Beets!! in the house, baby, it's gonna be SICK!

And on the mic, Colonel's brother from another mother, MC ZEZO

Repping New York, Los Angles, and Miami, MC Zezo is an old skool MC with nu school flavor. Maybe you saw him at the World of DnB in Miami, maybe you've caught him at I Love LA, maybe you saw him killing it with 4Real and Colonel at the Haight Street Fair--whatever the case, you know Zezo brings HEAT with a ragga-flavor. Colonel rates him BIG (and has been working on getting him and his cousin MC Dino to do a DnB remake of the Three Amigos' "Buttercup"), and Compression is always stoked to see him through. Zezo's relocated SF now, so expect to see him at Compression (and elsewhere) on the regular. With Zezo in town, LA's loss is our rowdy gain!

What else is there to say about the one like SS? Head of Formation records, producer of legendary tracks like LIGHTER, ringleader of the World of Drum and Bass tour: SS is one of THE primary moving forces in Drum and Bass as we know it. He's also Professor Emeritus of Compression and has absolutely TORN the club to the GROUND everytime he's played.

SS has said Compression is one of his very favorite places to play in the world, and that Compression heads are amongst the nuttiest (and, likely, the drunkest). Get ready as the fucking DON, the fucking DUKE of DnB returns to wreck shop!!

At his side on this very special night is quite likely the world's greatest female MC, TALI. You might know her from the Lyric on her Lip, or from her work with Krust and Die as part of I, Kamanchi, or from her work touring with Roni Size, or maybe from her amazing performance (alongside SS) at the World of DnB, San Francisco last year. But even if you don't, TRUST, she's an amazing MC, full of lyrics, song, and great, soulful vibes. We're stoked to have her in the house, so roll out and see how a professional do!!

Summer of Badness: Craggz & Parallel Forces

Last week was our biggest yet at TEMPLE. More beer got drank, more fists got thrown up, and more people rocked the dancefloor than ever. DJs SHARP, MAL, IVRY, AYE~N and guest DJ GENOME firebombed the motherfucking house, while MCs COLONEL, AX!OM and special guest ZEZO had the crowd shouting along. WHAT COULD BE ROWDIER?

This Thursday: CRAGGZ AND PARALLEL FORCES

After taking time out for cheese and wine tasting, intergalactic travel and self-discovery, Craggz and Parallel Forces are back! Having fulfilled their album commitment to Valve and releasing the critically acclaimed "Northern Soul" album, the lads have decided to spread the joy and pen some original offerings for some other great labels. Over the next few months they have releases lined up on Critical, CIA, and their own label, Product Recordings.

Be sure to check their myspace for information on their bio and upcoming tracks, but trust us: C&PF ain't no usual COMPRESSION guest, and don't drop only that usual COMPRESSION sound. These guys will smooth it out, build it up , take it deep and bounce it around. This week is special down at Compression, as we welcome drum and bass superstars BACHELORS OF SCIENCE and celebrate the release of their new track, HORIZONS.

In case you've been on glue for the last year, the BACHELORS OF SCIENCE are Phil 'Rene' Collis and Chris Doe. Hailing from San Francisco, California, the Bachelors of Science have already become firm fixtures in the global dnb scene with their unique sound ranging from liquid flavors to dancefloor beats, with tracks smashing into top record boxes with the likes of Brian Gee, Bailey, LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, High Contrast, Doc Scott, Flight, Alix Perez, Redeyes, JuJu, and L Double to name but a few.

After several very successful releases in 2006 including "Jah No Dead" and "Wicked Ways", the Bachelors busted ass on their debut LP "Science Fiction," which was released on Horizons Music on January, 2008, and included the smash hits "Song For Lovers", "Strings Track", "People Together" and "The Ice Dance". The album was Number One nine weeks in a row on the DnB Arena Download chart, and continues to smash up the world with its lush, heartfelt production.

Not much could improve upon the Bachelors' current sound, except for maybe an extremely rare appearance by the Queen of US MC's, the mighty mighty AUDIO ANGEL.

There was once a time in San Francisco--first at Eklektik, and then at Compression--when you could enjoy the funktastic vocal stylings of the ANGEL every week. As if ROBIN WILLIAMS hadn't done enough to screw the universe* with Insomnia, License to Wed, Ms. Doubtfire, the one where he played a robot, Patch fucking Adams, and, oh god, Jakob the Liar, now this week he and his celebrity buddies (including that pirate guy) are taking over the ENTIRE CLUB for some superduper celebrity buttlick fest.

It's probably for the best that Compression's closed for the night, or otherwise he'd probably just want to get on the mic and try to MC using his "urban" voice. *shudder*

We here at Compression appreciate that Drum and Bass can be especially scary to white people. There's big bass, a charging beat, and funky drum "breaks" that can make dancing difficult. I mean, how do you count "1-2-3-4" in your head to a beat that goes "1-2. 3-4"? Whitey sure as hell don't know, so he's headed over to a Trance party, where all his friends are waiting for him--with glowsticks and hugs!

FINALLY, the talent on the night is the incomporably white COMPRESSION CREW.

Girrrrrrl, you woulda been proud of your boy!

Compression RINSED Miami this year, holding down the World of Drum and Bass 2008 with the most funky and rowdy second room the party's seen in years. Visionary, R.A.W., Mason and D*Star, Armanni, Dino and on and on--truly, the room cracked the fuck OFF as STATESIDE drum and bass represented to the FULLEST. And when it was Compression's turn, Ivry rocked it sideways before Aye~n and Mal delivered what may have been the set of the night, dropping bomb after bomb with Colonel and Angel charging behind. Seriously, y'all, the room swinged and swayed all night long like only Compression (and maybe Lionel Ritchie) can do. It even LOOKED like Compression in there. I mean: god tothe DAMN.

But yo the main room looked like this:

Sweet jesus, Goldie was ROCKIN. The crowd partied like it was 1999, Mal and 4 Real killed the world, and Audio Angel came back to life to help the Colonel hype it up about as hyped as it could get. It was one for the books, no doubt! (Stay tuned for ridiculous photos from La Loca.)

This week, we keep the vibe rolling (all the way down hill to the WORLD OF DRUM AND BASS ON MARCH 21) with Compression friends LUKEINO & the HEIGHTS:

You know these two pimps. Representing REFLEX crew, Lukeino is one of San Francisco's old guard, a true original who will drop your girl's panties and make you scream like you're being murdered, all with the same song. At his side will be The Heights, one of BADNB's freshest and most promising DJs. He made his name at the Love Fest in 2006 (I can never turn that corner in front of the Civic Center without thinking of his set) and continues to rock dancefloors like a motherfucking hurricaine.

These fools are coming with a stack of their own fresh beats that, TRUST ME, will cold rock the party like MC Lyte.

But, like, if that wasn't enough to convince you to drag yer chunky butt up off the couch and come party with us, it's also time again for

THE BEETS! Compression heads and the city's best upcoming, upfront drum and bass DJ's.

Now, we could talk about the EPIC set they played last time, but let me tell you this: one night the Compression crew was out on the back porch, getting TOE UP, and all of a sudden we heard somebody drop "Rubbish" at a nearby houseparty. We look, and there's all these people going apeshit in somebody's kitchen, hands in the air apeshit to full-throttle DnB. The DJ's were dropping bomb after bomb, every two minutes another bomb. We're all chilling on the portch, laughing, going "shit, who the hell are those guys?" It was the fucking BEETS.

In a day when most people don't even know what DnB is, the BEETS rocked that house party like George Clinton on crack. And that, as they say, is COMPRESSION STYLES.

January 31: The Warm-Up Ends

As you know, January is traditionally a peaceful time down at Compression, a time to reflect on the past year and come together as a crew. Days of calm contemplation, nights of petting wild unicorns and visiting crystal castles. Ahhhhhhh.

This Thursday is the last of these calm moments, a final chance to relax before the coming storm (see below, oh jesus). So this Thursday, Compression invites you to come out, sip some fine cocktails, and raise a hand or two in the air in the name of drum and bass. Granted, things might get COMPLETELY out of hand such that we decide to ride the unicorns over to the crystal castle, destroy the castle, and then sniff the remaining piles of crystal dust, but then we'll just deal with that when it happens.
